Health Disparities
Research has shown that racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic disparities are national problems that affect access and quality of healthcare. Molina Healthcare is dedicated to overcoming barriers to care in the populations we serve.
Prevention and treatment of chronic conditions are critical efforts to reducing healthcare disparities. Many conditions can be prevented, such as juvenile diabetes as a result of obesity and the multitude of cardiac and respiratory conditions that result from smoking. Molina Healthcare has invested significant resources to provide our members with disease management programs targeting certain chronic conditions, as well as prevention, such as smoking cessation.
Effectively changing behavior to prevent and reduce childhood obesity and smoking will take a broader systematic approach. Policies at the State and Federal levels should focus on both preventing and managing chronic illness in order to reduce the burden to the patient and our healthcare system.
