State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP)
Late on January 29, the Senate approved its version of H.R. 2, the “Children’s Health Insurance Program Reauthorization Act,” by a vote of 66 to 32. Normally the the next stage of the legislative process would be a conference committee made up of Members of the House and Senate convening to negotiate a compromise between their respective SCHIP bills. The Senate appointed its conferees immediately after passing the bill. They are: Senators Baucus (D-MT), Rockefeller (D-WV), Conrad (D-ND), Grassley (R-IA) and Hatch (R-UT). However, the House may be willing to take up the Senate version which will negate the need for a conference committee. This could happen as early as next week. We will keep you informed.
Thank you to all Molina Health Action Network SCHIP mobilization participants. You helped Molina send over 700 messages to Capitol Hill about the importance of SCHIP in providing access and affordable healthcare to children in need. The House and Senate votes are listed below.
